Holderness Sweeps Alpine NEPSACs

Georg Capaul

This past Wednesday, a strong Holderness team won the Eastern Alpine skiing NEPSAC tournament at Cannon Mountain, beating out a strong Deerfield Academy team while sweeping the boys' and girls' giant slalom and slalom events.

Participating schools included Deerfield, Eaglebrook (boys only), Gould, Holderness, Kents Hill, KUA, New Hampton, Proctor, St. Paul's, and Vermont Academy.

Senior Ben Peters and junior Anna Hosmer dominated both the giant slalom and slalom in spectacular fashion. Polly Evans '08, Ryan Walters '06, and Jesse Straus '06 provided the foundation for the teams' success with steady performances. Chris Roche '07 dazzled the crowd with his reckless but fast skiing, and Casey Gilman '06, in her first race back from an injury earlier in the season, placed second in the giant slalom.

Jeffrey Meyers '06, Ryanne Haskell '08, Taylor James '07, Hadley Bergh '09, Will Lowry '06, and Chris Howe '06 rounded out the winning team.

I was at the Championship with Polly and we ran into Mike Barger. Mike is the son of our friends from Bevery Farms, Jeff and Cindy Barger. Mike was racing for Proctor School.
